Finland

Welcome to the land of the blue treasures! Here, lakes and rivers are counted in thousands. Welcome to the land of the white treasures! Here, winter settles in half the year and freezes with snow and ice, but the sauna is always available to warm you up! Welcome to the land of the green treasures! Pine trees and birches fight to share space, and shelter a large home for wild berries. Finland is for everyone, and we want to share it with you. Here is a help to get you  ready for your next trip.

 By road and train:  

Note: The highways in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Finland… are free of any charge.

1-    To the ones who choose the options 1, 2 and 3, reach the north of Germany, Hamburg area ; to the ones who choose the option 4, your drive is very different.

2-     Option 1: ·      Take the highway A7-E45 and follow Flensburg (Denmark) ·      Keep driving on the highway E45, then near Kolding (Denmark) take the highway E20 and follow Odense (Denmark) and Kobenhavn (Denmark) Remember : there’s the Storebaelt toll-bridge before Odense http://www.storebaelt.dk (indicative price : between 30Euros for a car and 45Euros for a camping-car) ·      Near Kobenhavn (Denmark), keep driving on the road E20 and follow Malmö (Sweden) through Öresund bridge. Remember : Öresund’s bridge is a toll-bridge before Malmö http://www.oresundsbron.com ( indicative price : from 40Euros for a car and 75Euros for a camping-car) ·      After the bridge, keep driving on the highway E6 for Göteborg (Sweden) and Helsingborg (Sweden) ·      Near Helsingborg, take the highway E4 and follow Jönköping (Sweden), Linköping (Sweden), then Stockholm (Sweden) 

3-     Option 2: ·      Take the highway A1-E22 and follow Lübeck (Germany), Puttgarden (Germany) Arrive in Puttgarden (Germany) and take the ferry for Rodbyhavn (Denmark) Remember : you  have to pay the ferry for Denmark http://www.scandlines.com , http://www.ferries.fr (indicative price : from 55Euros for a car to 85Euros for a camping-car, in accordance with the number of passengers and their age) ·      At the exit of the ferry, take the highway E47 and follow Kobenhavn (Denmark) ·      Near Kobenhavn (Denmark), keep driving on the road E20 and follow Malmö (Sweden) through Oresund bridge. Remember : Öresund bridge is a toll-bridge before Malmö http://www.oresundsbron.com ( indicative price : from 40Euros for a car to 75Euros for a camping-car) ·      After the bridge, keep driving on the highway E6 for Göteborg (Sweden) and Helsingborg (Sweden) ·      Near Helsingborg, take the highway E4 and follow Jönköping (Sweden), Linköping (Sweden), then Stockholm (Sweden) 

4-   Option 3: There’s also the possibility to go straight to Helsinki (Finland) from Rostock (Germany) The ferries leave early in the morning from Rostock harbour, and it takes about 26 hours of travelling. But the fees are quite high http://www.tallinksilja.com/en/

5-   Option 4: Since Baltic countries have been included in the European Union and Shenghen Territory, it is possible to travel to Finland through Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia without any problem with visa or control on the border. You will have to reach the capital of Estonia, Tallinn. There, more than 5 crossings are guaranteed between Tallinn and Helsinki (Finland) with different ferry companies. It takes about 2 hours for crossing. Indicative price: from 25Euros to 45Euros. Please visit the websites mentioned above to get more information (Viking Line, Tallinksilja...)

6-     If the option 1 or 2 is chosen, you arrive in Stockholm and you take a ferry for Finland (Turku, or Helsinki) through Aland Islands (Mariehamn) 

7-     Option ferry 1: Choose the Viking Line company http://www.vikingline.fi and drive to the terminal located in Stadsgarden. Near Arsta, follow the road 222 and Gustavsberg. Near Sickla and Gustavsberg, follow Stadsgarden and the signs leading to the terminal. Notes: It takes one day/one night to cross. Interesting prices for a trip during the week and by day, with or without a cabin. Think ahead to make a reservation during the summer time, vacations and week-ends. Go to the terminal at least one hour before the departure.

8-     Option ferry 2: Choose the Silja Line company http://www.silja.us and drive to the terminal located in Värtan. Keep driving on the road E20 and pass round Stockholm. Don’t take the road E4 in north of Stockholm but keep driving on the road E20 and then the road 277. Notes: It takes one day/one night to cross. It is more expensive than on Viking Line but a little bit more comfortable. Think ahead to make a reservation during the summer time, vacations and week-ends. Go to the terminal at least one hour before the departure.

8-     Unloading in Turku (Finland):  ·      Follow Helsinki and the road 1-E18 ·      Near Helsinki, follow the « Ring 3 » and the road 50-E18 ·      After having almost passed  round Helsinki, take the road 4-E75 and follow Lahti,  then Mikkeli by the road 5, then Varkaus and Joensuu by the road 23 ·      Unloading in Helsinki (Finland) : follow Lahti,  then Mikkeli by the road 5, then Varkaus and Joensuu by the road.

Notes: We usually welcome to Joensuu, capital of the Northern Karelia provincial. But, in accordance with the schedule of the agency and your choices for your trekking, it may be that welcoming takes place in a different place in Finland. In that case, we will furnish you more information on this website or by mail.

By air and train:

Notes: Blue1 is a Finnish low cost company. Interesting prices. Your arrival airport in Finland is Helsinki-Vantaa http://www.helsinki-vantaa.fi Arrived in Helsinki airport, take the bus 615 for the train station (rautatieasema) in Helsinki, or take the bus 61 for the small train station (rautatieasema) in Tikkurila. There’s a bus about every 10mn (Indicative prices: a  ticket between 2,50Euros and 4Euros per person in accordance with the days and the times) At Helsinki or Tikkurila train stations, buy a ticket for Joensuu (Indicative price: between 60 and 80Euros for a ticket for an adult, about 4 hours of travelling) http://www.vr.fi You may make a reservation and buy on line with a credit card, then show an email copy of your ticket. Also you may buy your ticket aboard without an increase of the price. We usually welcome to Joensuu, capital of the Northern Karelia provincial.
